The start of a new year gives us the opportunity to create some good habits with our computers. Let’s start the New Year on the right track, so here are some New Year Resolutions for your PC:

1)      Remember to BACK UP. This is perhaps the most important job to do on the computer. You don’t want to get caught in a situation where your PC breaks down or you catch an unrepairable virus and you face losing many years’ worth of photos and memories. Get in touch to find out about cloud back up solutions from The ‘PuterTutor

2)      Turn on windows update, you can find this by typing windows update in your search box, either on your start menu or charm bar if you use Windows 8. By keeping up to date with Windows you reduce your chances of catching viruses

3)      Keep your antivirus up-to-date. Make sure you don’t let your paid subscription run out and if you are using free antivirus double check it is running. Some spyware and viruses can turn off your protection without you realising.

4)      Try to be savvier when on the internet. Flashing adverts telling your PC is infected is a ploy to get you to click on their advert and install sometimes useless programs. Don’t do it! If you get adverts on www.google.co.uk, like in the picture below, that is a sure sign you are infected.
